St Columba's Day 2010
St Columba's Day, Wednesday 9th June 2010
On Wednesday 9th June we served the Divine Liturgy for the feast of one of our patrons St. Columba. Priests and a deacon from other jurisdictions concelebrated with us for what was a joyous occasion. I was also contacted by an American priest who wanted the troparia, kontakia and readings that we used. It turned out that they were establishing a monastery in Minnesota under the patronage of St. Columba!
It was a wonderful thought that we were being prayed for across the world and that we could pray for Fr. Peter and his community in return. What a wonderful witness to our faith and to the enduring presence of God's saints in His Church.
As is customary on these occasions a splendid spread was put on by parishioners and visitors alike. It is always amazing to me that Orthodox people are always willing to travel so far to attend the Divine Liturgy without complaint but merely as a matter of course. Our thanks are extended to those who sent best wishes and all who helped to make such a wonderful day in honour of our patron.
